Having recently attended a meeting for World Vision Ambassadors (people like me who try to link needy children with sponsors), I came away with some heartening news! The number of the world’s poorest people, those living on less than a dollar a day, has been cut in HALF in the last thirty years. More exciting, still, it is projected that the remaining population of the poorest poor could be eliminated completely by the year 2030. Can you imagine that?? I never thought that in my lifetime Earth could see an end to destitute poverty.
But here is the problem: Poverty is retreating into hard-to-reach, war-torn places like Syria, where political instability makes it dangerous and difficult for aid workers to get into the country, let alone establish the tried-and-true system of building self-sustaining communities. Rising to the challenge, World Vision is spearheading a new process by which we can reach children living in desperate straits—orphaned, starving, sickened by bad water, and preyed upon by human traffickers. This new project is called “Into the Margins.” It entails finding people like you—Child Crisis Partners.
In lieu of sponsoring one single child, you can make it possible for any number of children to be rescued, fed, and cared-for. All that is needed is for conscientious people like you to contribute a sum that you will probably never miss. Thirty-five dollars a month can transform a human life completely! But you can pledge any monthly amount in order to become a Child Crisis Partner. Please do your small part in accomplishing this noble effort, while fulfilling God’s mandate to us to feed “the least of these.”
