Dog hero

The heroic dog that saved Cpt. Luis Ricardo Montalvan’s life

Heroes come in every form. As long as they display heroic attributes of courage and perseverance, who says they have to be human? This golden retriever named Tuesday is the hero that saved former Army Captain Luis Carlos Montalvan’s life. After his traumatic experience in the Iraqi war, Montalvan fell victim to post-traumatic stress disorder. or PTSD. His world spiraled out of control–that is, until Tuesday, a marvelous therapy dog, came into his existence and steadied him. You could argue that Tuesday is just a dog doing what dogs do best–showing loyalty. But he’s more than that–he’s a counselor, an empathetic spirit, a wise old soul who knows just what his master needs in order to cope with life’s stressors.

Reading Montalvan’s book, Until Tuesday, inspired me to include dogs in my own books–hence Milly, the bomb-sniffing dog turned undercover therapy dog in THE ENFORCER. I now see that the author is a member of the Grandchildren of the Cuban Revolution group on Facebook–so is the hero of my current book, Lt. Sam Sasseville! Clearly Montalvan has influenced me more than either of us realize. You can check out his website at: http://www.luiscarlosmontalvan.com/contact.html.
